Women of Courage: Lizzie Means Duplantis and Sarah Means

The Tracee Nichols Roman Token symbolizes inner courage and strength. What personally gives you courage? 

L + S: In the last several years, we’ve had the opportunity to work with some truly remarkable women, many of them dear friends. There is nothing as cool as walking out of a meeting or jumping off of a phone call and taking a second to marvel at how smart, capable, and creative our pals are. It’s such an honor to be able to work with them, and it’s especially cool that we are cheering for one another.  We take courage in their abilities – to us, they indicate a bright future. 

Where did you grow up, and what is your favorite childhood memory?

L + S: We grew up on our family’s working cattle ranch in far west Texas, 30 miles from the closest town (i.e. school, grocery store, or post office). Because we lived so rurally, we were sort of forced to make our own fun and to create together, which has stood us in good stead as business and design partners.  

Who are your favorite accounts or brands to follow on social for style inspiration?

L + S: Cristina Lynch is a dear friend and always the most elegant and interesting person with  whom to chat business – she reads everything and is wicked smart! We love following her travels, which she shares on Instagram. @cristina_lynch

Diamond Mahone styles our campaign photoshoots, and is one of the sun-shiniest, chicest, most uplifting people on the planet. She’s obviously super chic, and we think she has an unparallelled eye for color and color combinations.  Always a source for inspiration. @diamondmahone

Missy Rogers is our go-to muse and planner for stylish soirees. Her pages always rev us up for a great time.  @missyrsvpevents

For anyone looking for the courage to take their own leap of faith – whether it’s starting a business, making a career change, etc. – what’s the one piece of advice you would give?

L + S: Our best advice is to leverage your network, tap your connections and lean on your tribe for help and counsel. People are rooting for you, and you can’t do it without them.  Relish what you don’t know and don’t be intimidated to ask questions and make mistakes while you learn. 

What’s been the most rewarding part of the Miron Crosby journey?

L + S: By far the people we have met along the way. Our customers, our team members, even folks we only message on Instagram have all shaped us in ways we would never have imagined possible. 

Like me, your brand is based on art that people can wear (the best kind, in my opinion!). What creative process and craftsmanship goes into each pair of Miron Crosby boots? 

L + S: Our designs are inspired by the catwalk, travel, and art, and made by hand in south Texas, by our incredible team of artisans with decades of experience. Approximately forty pairs of hands touch every pair of Miron Crosby boots as they are made.  It’s that combination of traditional production paired with high fashion designs that is signature Miron Crosby. 

As my debut design, I love to see how everyone chooses to wear their Roman Token. How do you plan to style yours?

L + S: We’ll never take them off! As the weather warms up, we’re excited for ditzy florals and low-key pastels.  We can’t wait to wear our Roman Token with white Kiki Vargas scalloped tops and light wash Levis for Mondays, with patterned Horror Vacui dresses and our Kate Cuoio boots for the office, or with our (yes, matching) Another Tomorrow yellow dresses for date night. 

What’s your favorite or most unexpected way to style cowboy boots?

L + S: With anything and everything. We love to pretend cowboy boots are the only silhouettes in our closets (which, realistically, they are) and style them absolutely everything for a fresh take on literally every look. 

What’s your go-to beauty or style item that you can’t live without?

L + S: Cowboy boots!
